Building your own Explorer Mindset is a creative process where educators and learners consider, construct and adopt attitudes and skills that will help them on their journey in learning. This is an empowering approach because it offers voice and choice and honors individual differences.
In the article, “Culturally Responsive Social and Emotional Learning” Dr. Anne Snyder and Claire Cook, applied learning scientists, assert that SEL cannot be as effective with a “one size fits all” approach because human nature itself makes us different. Our experiences, behaviors emotions are personal and influenced by the culture of our home and distinct locality. They convincingly make the case that Socal-Emotional Learning (SEL) must be culturally responsive to be most effective. Core Competencies of SEL

Cultural responsiveness is exactly what we are trying to achieve with the Explorer Mindset web tool.
Learners select and can modify attitudes and skills that fit their individual preferences and needs, building a mindset that is unique to themselves
Learners select a visual that goes along with their mindset, and they have the flexibility to upload their own; attaching a picture helps learners take the abstract to concrete action
In our user profile system, learners are able to create multiple mindsets that fit different tasks or situations and create mindset maps that link their Explorer Mindset to a particular need
Learners are encouraged to seek and identify heroes on their user account to help keep them inspired to pursue their individual dreams

Many situations can cause learners to be dependent vs independent. The goal of our resource is to provide a tool to empower all learners
